In July of 2018 a lone male orca ( TO73B ) visited and stayed for awhile in the waters near my home in the Comox Valley. One day I stopped my car along the shore and watched him from the beach. Though he was over a kilometer away I was struck by the beauty of his dorsal fin. Jet black and reaching tall into the sky like the keel of a capsized boat.
While working on this drawing I wanted to convey the power and presence that these creatures possess. Each alone is a monolith to be admired, even when seen together in a pod.
In 2019 I had the pleasure of working with The Royal Canadian Mint on this 5 oz gold-plated silver coin. It depicts an Arctic Fox, with its habitat and prey rendered within its silhouette.
Please watch as I unbox my Coin!
